In May 2009, the Menís Golf Association (MGA) established the Stephen R. Lett Scholarship Fund, Inc., in honor of Steve Lett and his six-year term as President of Kings Creek Country Club, a private Club located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. This is a not-for-profit corporation under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It is funded by donations, special golf events sponsored by the Kings Creek Country Club, the Menís Golf Association (MGA) and the Ladies Golf Association (LGA).
Each year, the Fund will award a $2,500 scholarship annually to a deserving college bound high school senior. A first year recipient may also be eligible for additional scholarship funds their second, third and fourth year of college. In order to qualify, for subsequent years, they must meet certain criteria. A scholarship recipient can receive a total of $10,000 over a four-year period.
The governance and administration of the Fund is vested in a Board of Directors consisting of five (5) persons. The Board of Directors consists of the following: Stephen R. Lett as a permanent member, the sitting president of Kings Creek Country Club (KCCC), the sitting president of the KCCC Ladiesí Golf Association, the sitting president of the KCCC Menís Golf Association and the sitting KCCC Head Golf Professional. The Board of Directors establishes the criteria and process for nominations for, and the awarding of, any and all scholarships that may be granted as well as the dollar amount of any and all said scholarships.
Each fall, the Board accepts nominations from members of Kings Creek Country Club. The nominee does not have to be affiliated with Kings Creek and they can reside in other states. However, they do need to be nominated by a Kings Creek Country Club member in good standing.
An independent Selection Committee is appointed every year to review and select the most deserving applicant. The Selection Committee includes five members; three individuals from the community and two Stephen R. Lett Scholarship Fund Board members. The Committee reviews all applications in detail and they meet as a group to make their selection and recommendation to the Board. The Board has final approval and ratifies the recommendation of the Selection Committee.
